Singapore Tightens Entry From PakistanSingapore on Thursday tightened entry requirements for passport holders from five nations -- Iran, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Pakistan -- demanding they get visas because of the "global security situation."Iran and Sudan are both on the United States list of states sponsoring terrorism. In a brief statement, the Singapore immigration department said visa requirements "are regularly reviewed and updated based on the global security situation." Nationals from the five countries "will need to have local sponsors for their visa applications," the statement said. In recent weeks, Singapore has cited the global situation several times when tightening security. Last Friday, security at the Changi international airport and other key installations was stepped up because of "unstable global security" after the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States. |
