German Ullrich Wins Time Trial of World Road Championships

Germany's Jan Ullrich won the time trial at the World Road Championships in Lisbon on Thursday, repeating the title he captured in Italy in 1999.

The 27-year-old German, runner-up in the Tour de France this year, beat the Hong Kong-based British cyclist David Millar by more than six seconds.

Santiago Botero of Columbia finished third.

"I was confident of a good race here because I have been in good form recently." the East German-born Olympic champion said.

Ullrich will also compete in Sunday's road race, highlight of this championships of six days.

The defending time trial champion Sergi Gontchar finished in 11th place, almost two minutes off the pace.
