15 US Military Planes Said to Have Landed at Pak Air Base

Pakistan has confirmed the presence of US military personnel in the country, but stressed they are not combat units.

A spokesman said the personnel are here only to provide logistical support for the US-led air strikes against Afghanistan.

Media reports also said that at least 15 US military aircraft, including C-130 transport planes, have landed at Pakistan's Jacobabad air base during the past two days.

US Personnel in Pakistan Only for Logistical Support: Spokesman

US military personnel had arrived in Pakistan to provide only logistical help for the on-going military strikes on Afghanistan by US-led coalition, Pakistan's military spokesman Rashid Qureshi said on Thursday.

Gureshi said that the US personnel arrived in the country are not combat troops, and they are only to provide logistical support to the US-led military strikes against Taliban targets and terrorist training bases.

Pakistan has promised to assist the United States in providing logistical support, allowing the use of air space and sharing intelligence in the fight against terrorism.

Meanwhile, government spokesman Anwar Mehmood also said the US personnel were not combat forces.
