Afghan Opposition Leader Meets With Tajik President
Ousted Afghan President Burhanuddin Rabbani voiced full support Wednesday for the US-led strikes in Afghanistan following his closed-door meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov in the Tajik capital of Dushanbe.
Russian press reports said Rabbani, now the official leader of the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance, expressed satisfaction with his two-hour talk with Rakhmonov without disclosing details.
The Itar-tass news agency quoted the Tajik presidential press service as saying that the presidents discussed a wide range of issues related to the situation in Afghanistan, security in Central Asia and the fight against international terrorism.
Rabbani said he visited Dushanbe at the personal invitation of Rakhmonov.
