Philippine, US Presidents to Meet in November

Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has been invited to meet with US President George Bush in Washington D.C. on November 20, the Presidential Palace said Wednesday.

The Presidential Palace, quoting a statement of the US press secretary, said that Bush is pleased to host Arroyo this year, which marks the 50th anniversary of the mutual defense treaty between the two countries.

The US statement also said that the September 11 attacks on the US have reinforced the strength and vitality of the partnership of the two countries, as demonstrated by Arroyo's strong leadership in support of US-led anti-terrorist efforts.

Bush will discuss developments in the campaign against terror, regional security matters and ways to further strengthen cooperation between the United States and the Philippines, the statement said.

The Presidential Palace said Arroyo will also meet with some high-ranking US officials and business and civic leaders during her visit to the United States in November.
