State Council Executive Meeting Held on Sand ScoopingChina's State Council held its 45th executive meeting Wednesday to discuss and approve, in principle, the draft of a regulation on sand scooping in the river course of the Yangtze River, China's longest waterway.Premier Zhu Rongji presided over the meeting. The participants agreed the regulation is necessary to curb illegal sand-digging activities that have threatened the safety of the river course, seriously hampering flood-control measures and navigation as well as public security in the area, according to the meeting. The regulation is expected to be enforced by the State Council after some revisions. |
