Chinese Defense Minister Meets Guyanese GuestsChinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian and Michael Atherly, chief of the defense staff of Guyana, met Wednesday to discuss issues of common concern to their countries.Chi, also vice chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, said that Sino-Guyanese relations have developed smoothly since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 29 years ago. China and Guyana have maintained friendly cooperation in recent years with the frequent exchange of visits, and have shared identical or similar views on many international issues, he said. The defense minister expressed satisfaction with the current Sino-Guyanese military relations, and welcomed the prospect of deepened ties between the two armed forces. Chi briefed the guests on the Chinese government's stance on the Taiwan issue, and thanked the Guyanese government for its adherence to the One-China position. Atherly said that Guyanese government will continue to adhere to One-China policy.
