90th Anniversary of 1911 Revolution Marked Throughout China

A range of activities have been organized in major Chinese cities to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Revolution in 1911, led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen.

In the Chinese capital of Beijing, a grand rally was held in the Great Hall of the People Tuesday to celebrate the anniversary, and Chinese President Jiang Zemin gave a keynote speech at the gathering.

In Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, more than 50 people, including members of non-Communist parties, Whampoa schoolfellows, and descendants of the 1911 revolutionary martyrs attended a forum held Monday near the mausoleum built in the name of Dr Sun Yat-sen in Nanjing.

Fan Yuhu, vice chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial Subcommittee of the Revolutionary Committee of Chinese Kuomintang and also a descendant of a 1911 revolutionary martyr, said China's national strength is growing, and with the return of Hong Kong and Macao, reunification of China is gaining momentum.

Fan also pledged to contribute to China's reunification and to the prosperity of the Chinese nation.

A calligraphy and painting exhibition is being held in the Sun Yat-sen Academy in Nanjing, attracting many visitors.

In south China's Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province, activities, including forums, and exhibitions of archival art works and photographs relating to the 1911 Revolution mark the 90th anniversary of the event.

Shenyang, capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province, has issued a series of stamps featuring the history from the founding of the Chinese Revolutionary League until the overthrow of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
