Pak, Taliban Troops Fight Gunbattle Along Border

Pakistani soldiers exchanged gunfire with the Afghan Taliban militia Tuesday in a remote northwestern border, military sources said Wednesday.

However, it has been denied as a kind of propaganda by Taliban envoy in Islamabad Mullah Abdul Slam Zaeef at a press conference here Wednesday.

The sources said the clash happened when about 30 Taliban fighters tried to enter into Pakistan's Bajaur tribal district. The gunbattle lasted for about two hours, said the sources.

Four Pakistani border guards were injured but it is not clear whether there is any casualty from the Taliban side.

There was a news report saying that Taliban pilots on Monday flew five helicopters across the border about 30 kilometers north of Torkham, a checking post on the Pak-Afghan border.

However, the report has been denied by the Pakistani Foreign Office as "baseless."
