Five Steps of Satellite Remote Sensing Application

Satellite remote sensing application is only a component part of the strategy of "digital earth" and the information project. And that needs to be done for giving full play to the application system consists of five steps including digitalization, informationization, intellectualization, reappearance and decision-making, according to Chen Shupeng, academician with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, at the China Aviation Industry High-tech Forum in Beijing on October 8.

According to Chen, the five steps of satellite remote sensing applications are as follows:

1.Digitalization: Directly get data, parameters, and digital images from all kinds of satellites, and then through speedy transmission, geometric correction and large-volume access to finally set up a database for providing search and exploring services.

2.Informationization: To extract effective information from abundant data by means of mathematical statistics and analysis, image identification, and research on space-time transfer of dynamic movement.

3.Intellectualization: To sum up objective law from all kinds of professional application models, images and data, to provide scientific basis for project design, quality control, and information system management.

4.Reappearance: In terms of objective law and limited conditions, to make reappear natural or social historical courses by simulation, extend and predict further development, and suggest several possible solutions.

5.Decision: The decision-making departments should select the best solution after taking the whole situation into consideration.

Chen said, in the previous century, the satellite remote sensing application emphasized particularly on nature, resources, abio-environment, and static observation and identification while in this century, it will surely center on humane-culture, ecological environment, and dynamic observation and appraisement. Finally, he compared the satellite remote sensing application in 21st century to Iron Man Relay, saying that through remote sensing selection, multi-platform combination and multi-information amalgamation, the satellite remote sensing application will finally turn out to be a fast production line.
