Over Half Urban Citizens in China Satisfied with Current Income: Survey

About 58.2 percent of Chinese urban citizens are satisfied with their current income, and 20.6 percent "not very satisfied" and 17.1 percent "not satisfied at all", according to a latest survey by China Economic Monitoring Center.

When questioned the factors that decide earnings, 34.2 percent said "technical ability", 20.6 percent refer to "the economic performance of the unit you are working for" and 18.1 percent chose "national economic level". Only 9 percent took "job posts and ranks" as a decisive factor.

The survey also shows that people's conception on jobs are renewing and today the much-sought-for trades are for finance/economy, hi-tech, commodity exchange. Compared with survey at beginning of 2000, hi-tech jumped from the third place to the second and commodity exchange dropped from the second to third whereas jobs in government and party, thought to be the "most descent" in the past, ranked the sixth among 11 major trades given.

The top three industries thought to deserve the most "sympathy" are farming, forestry, animal husbandry, sideline occupation and fishery as a whole, social services and public undertakings.

Besides, 89.9 percent urban dwellers think income of urban family is higher than that in the countryside.
