Egypt Supports "All US Measures Against Terrorism": Mubarak

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said Tuesday that Egypt supports "all US measures" in fighting against terrorism as his country has long suffered from it.

Mubarak made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the Mubarak Peace Bridge on the Suez Canal, which is about 145 kilometers northeast of Cairo. This was Mubarak's first official reaction to the US military strikes against Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, he told reporters that Egypt hoped that the US adopts "strong steps" for a just resolution of the Palestine issue, as peace can not be secured in the Middle East as long as the issue is not solved.

On the recent U.S. President George W. Bush's endorsement of a Palestinian state, Mubarak said that the establishment of a Palestinian state is the sole guarantee for Israel's security.

He stressed that using force can neither resolve existing problems, nor guarantee regional peace and stability, adding that it will, on the contrary, increase the sense of insecurity of Israeli citizens.

"I reiterated many times that a Palestinian state should be established to solve the Palestine issue, because it (the Palestine issue) is one of the main reasons behind international terrorism," Mubarak said.

He warned that new terrorism generation will be fostered if the Palestine issue is not resolved.
