Chinese government values its relations with Guyana, and is ready to develop healthy and stable relations with the country in the new century, he added. Fu said that Sino-Guyanese military relations have developed momentum in recent years, and the Chinese army would like to promote cooperation with its Guyanese counterpart in all fields. On the settlement of the Taiwan issue, he said, the Chinese government adheres to the guideline of "peaceful reunification, and one country, two systems", and the Eight-Point Proposal made by Chinese President Jiang Zemin. "We have a sincere desire to strive for peaceful reunification, but we also are determined to make any necessary preparations to stop Taiwan's independence and any splittist activities," he said.
