10 New Industries Need Prompt DevelopmentAt present, What needs China's urgent attention is to develop ten new industries including environment protection, marine industry, tourism, culture, education, sports, exhibition, commodity circulation, agricultural science and technology and community as well, experts said. These hopeful industries will promote sustainable development of national economy and provide more employment chances, and they are estimated to become hot spots for investment with rich repayment. In coming five to ten years, China will center on rebuilding traditional industries with high technologies and actively developing new industries, according to sources from the ongoing China International New Industries Forum in Beijing.Take marine industry for example, the explored marine oil reserve has so far come only to 1.7 bn tons, not up to 7 percent of the total reserve of 22.5 billion tons and the further exploration will go from shallow sea to deep sea. With the holidaymaking resorts emerging along the coastal cities and islands more and more tourists are swarming there with an annual profit increase of 30 percent on the average since the 1990s. In addition, other marine industries including maritime chemical industry, maritime pharmaceutics, and seawater desalination, all have bright future for further development. As a new industry, sports industry has basically come to a certain scale on the world arena, with the annual production value reaching US$400bn, an average increase of 20 percent over the previous year. With the emergence of sports broker, China has also made a start of the sports industry in recent years. Exhibition has become a strong motivation for economy development. Currently, more than 4,000 large exhibitions in the world can bring about a direct profit of US$280bn every year. And in China, the exhibition industry with its relevant services has been strengthened into a new industry. As reported, the China International New Industries Forum, entitled "New Century, New Economy, New Industries", has attracted more than 150 experts from political, business, and academic circles. These experts will have detailed discussions on many aspects including the definition, representation, and development of new industries, the necessity and pressure for promoting new industries, and policies and strategies for encouraging the exploitation of new industries.
