Al-Qaeda's Kuwaiti Member Does not Represent Kuwait: Official

Kuwaiti Acting Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said on Monday that the Kuwaiti citizen acting as spokesman for Osama bin Laden's Al-Qaeda organization does not represent the Kuwaiti people.

Sabah, also foreign minister, told reporters that Suleyman Bugheith, one of the leading figures of Al-Qaeda, did not embarrass the Kuwaiti government "because he does not represent the Kuwaiti people."

Bugheith, who called for "Jihad" against the United States, was seen in a videotape of bin Laden released on Sunday by Al-Jazeera television station in Qatar.

Sabah reiterated that Kuwaiti citizen Bugheith "is wanted to appear before court of justice."

Responding to a question on whether Bugheith's nationality would be deprived, Sabah said that Bugheith "did not return to Kuwait to withdraw it."

As for Kuwait's reaction to the U.S. and British strikes against Afghanistan on Sunday, Sabah said that "Kuwait has nothing to do with this. We were informed like others just one hour prior to the strike."

Sabah denied any participation of Kuwait in the military operations, saying that "Kuwait just provides information on terrorism...nothing else was demanded from Kuwait."
