"Terrorism Has Nothing to Do With Islam," British Envoy Says

"International terrorism has nothing to do with Islam," a senior British diplomat said Monday.

Jeremy Greenstock, the British permanent representative to the United Nations, told reporters that what the latest statement by bin Laden, accused of masterminding the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States, "rings much hollower" than what the most member states have said in the week-long open General Assembly debate on how to fight international terrorism.

Greenstock made the statement after he, together with American U.N. ambassador Richard Negroponte, briefed the U.N. Security Council in a closed-door session on the current military attacks on Afghanistan, which began 26 days after the September 11 suicide attacks on the United States.
