Safety of HK Citizens in War-Affected Areas Concerned

The Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Tuesday expressed deep concern over the safety of Hong Kong citizens, in particular Hong Kong media staff who are in Afghanistan or its neighboring countries, after the US launched military strike against Afghanistan.

In a release issued Tuesday, the commissioner office said it had sent the lists of Hong Kong media staff currently stationed in Afghanistan to Chinese embassies and consulates in countries neighboring Afghanistan so that these embassies and consulates can provide full assistance when Hong Kong media staff or other citizens need help.

To facilitate communications with Hong Kong people in need of help, the commissioner office said it has provided related departments of the HKSAR government with the fax and telephone numbers of the Chinese embassies and consulates in countries concerned.

Thus far, the commissioner office has not received any reports from Chinese embassies and consulates in related countries saying that there are Hong Kong citizens asking for help, the commissioner office said.
