China Willing to Cooperate with Any Country on Anti-terrorism

China is willing to co-operate with any country against terrorism, especially those suffer from direct terrorist attacks, said Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Sun Yuxi Tuesday.

"China firmly opposes and condemns any form of terrorism, and supports relevant resolutions passed by the Security Council of the United Nations," Sun said at a regular press conference.

"Those resolutions must be carried out strictly," Sun said.

On Sino-U.S. cooperation in this regard, Sun said that the United States has informed China of some anti-terrorism investigations, and that the Chinese Police are helping with these investigations.

If China finds some important clues, it will inform the United States, Sun said.

Sun also mentioned the telephone conversation on October 8 between Chinese President Jiang Zemin and U.S. President George Bush.

Sun quoted Jiang as saying that "China and the United States, both having a major influence on the world, shoulder common responsibility for maintaining peace and stability in the Asia- Pacific region and the world."

"China is willing to work with the United States to reinforce exchanges and cooperation, and make efforts to protect the world's peace, stability and development," Sun cited Jiang.

Sun also noted that since the United States has launched military strikes on some targets in Afghanistan, the Chinese government has, for the security and stability of its border area, decided to temporarily close its border with Afghanistan from October 8.
