Iraqi Parliament Condemns US "Aggression" on AfghanistanIraq's National Assembly (parliament) on Monday condemned "the sinful aggression" by the United States and Britain against Afghanistan, the official INA news agency reported. The National Assembly said in a statement that the US and Britain were carrying out assaults on "a Muslim state and Muslim people" without presenting "enough and convincing evidences to most of the states and countries in the world." The Iraqi National Assembly's statement followed President Saddam Hussein's condemnation of Sunday evening's U.S.-led air strikes against Afghanistan. The Iraqi leadership had previously condemned the U.S. military buildup in the Gulf region to prepare retaliatory actions for the September 11 terror attacks, which killed thousands of people. Iraq has been confronting the U.S. since the 1991 Gulf War, in which the U.S.-led multinational coalition evicted Iraqi troops out of neighboring Kuwait after a six-month occupation. Iraq has since been under repeated air strikes by the U.S. and Britain in its northern and southern parts.
