Security Council Urges Implementation of Resolutions Against Terrorism

UN Security Council on Monday urged the full implementation of its resolutions against terrorism, the council said in a presidential statement.

"I might recall that the council reacted to the attacks of September 11, first through resolution 1368, and then through resolution 1373, which took direct aim at the financing and support of international terrorism," Council President Richard Ryan of Ireland told press after a close-door meeting by the 15- member U.N. body.

"The members of the council are determined to see the full implementation of these resolutions," he noted.

Meeting Monday evening at the request of the United States and the United Kingdom, the council heard a briefing by representatives from both countries on the military action that was launched in Afghanistan.

The council members are scheduled to meet Tuesday to further discuss the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, in particular the situation of refugees, he said.
