CIS Security Chiefs Agree on Anti-terrorism Measures
Security council chiefs of the signatories of the Collective Security Treaty of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) on Monday agreed on a number of measures to combat terrorism in Central Asia and in Afghanistan.
"Steps to combat terrorism were agreed upon following an exchange of views," said Russian Security Council Chief Vladimir Rushailo, who is chairing an emergency session of CIS Collective Security Treaty in the Tajik capital of Dushanbe.
He said after the first day of the session that coordinated measures would be taken to strengthen the securities over CIS borders, primarily the Tajik-Afghan border.
Rushailo said the participants had adopted a series of preventive measures, including tightening passport checks, enhancing the combat readiness of the CIS armed forces and the intensification of the work of law enforcement agencies.
The conference also discussed the strengthening of the CIS anti- terrorist center as well as a proposal to set up an anti-terrorist branch in Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek.
Rushailo stressed the CIS states should take active part in constructing a peaceful Afghanistan, which will not pose any threat to its neighbors.
