Chinese Vice-Premier Congratulate National Soccer Team

Chinese Vice-Premier Li Lanqing sent a congratulatory Letter to the China National Football Team who beat Oman 1-0 on Sunday in group B to qualify for the final rounds of the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan.

China is the first Asian team to qualified with 16 points from five wins and one draw with tow games yet to play. This is the ever first time China has advanced to the World Cup after six qualification attempts in 44 years.

Following are the congratulatory letter by Vice-Premier Li Lanqing:

It is glad to hear that the China National Football Team has qualified for the final rounds of the 17th World Cup in 2002 by winning the top spot in group B with two rounds of games yet to play. It is the results of your teamwork and tireless efforts. You are the pride of our people and the country. On behalf of the Central Committee of the CPC and the State Council, I wish you do better in future matches and contribute more to the sports development of China.
