Iran's Interior Minister Escapes Plane Accident

Iran's Interior Minister Abdolvahed Mousavi Lari escaped a plane accident caused by technical failure on Saturday, according to the official IRNA news agency.

The plane carrying him was forced to make an emergency landing in the northwestern province of Zanjan, where the plane took off for Rasht in the northern province of Gilan.

The minister had been in Zanjan for a ceremony to introduce the new local governor general, IRNA said.

An official accompanying the minister was quoted as saying the plane had encountered technical defect immediately after taking off from the Zanjan Airport and was forced to return to the airport.

Earlier on August 29, Lari and his delegation on board a helicopter escaped unhurt from a similar incident in the southwestern province of Chaharmahal va-Bakhtiari.
