Taliban Considers to Release Detained British Newswoman

Taliban chief representative Mulla Abdul Salam Zaeef said on Saturday that the militia's supreme leader Mullah Mohammed Omar is considering to release British newswoman Yvonne Ridley, detained a week ago for illegally entering Afghanistan, according to the Pakistan-based Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

Zaeef said that the British government had appealed to the Taliban authorities for the release of Yvonne Ridley, a reporter for the London-based Sunday Express, and she could be set free " either today or tomorrow."

Yvonne Ridley was arrested by the Taliban authorities on September 28 in Dar Baba district, some 60 kilometers southeast of Jalalabad, capital of Nangarhar province in Afghanistan. She was charged by the Taliban authorities with entering the country without any passport or visa.
