East China Province Offers Better Service to Senior Citizens

Nearly 7 million senior citizens in east China's Anhui Provinces have benefited from a number of preferential policies that went into effect October 1, including free entry to parks and museums within the province and free inter-city bus rides.

Citizens aged 60 and over are also entitled to favorable treatment when buying tickets for travel by boat and plane or for medical services, according to a regulation issued by the Anhui Provincial legislature.

The regulation also stipulates that an appropriate portion of income of welfare lottery should be used for the welfare of the senior citizens in the province, who account for 10 percent of Anhui's total population.

The regulation was formulated and issued to put China's Law on Safeguarding the Interests and Rights of Senior Citizens into practice, local legislators said.
