British Prime Minister Arrives in Pakistan

British Prime Minister Tony Blair arrived in Islamabad Friday afternoon on a working visit.

During his short stay here, Blair is to hold talks with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf on the current situation in the region arising from the terror attacks in the United States last month, a Foreign Office spokesman said at an earlier press briefing.

Blair is also expected to visit India after his tour here.

Pakistan Hopes Complete Normal Relations With Britain

Spokesman for the Pakistani Foreign Office (FO) Riaz Mohammed Khan said here Friday before the British Prime Minister Tony Blair's short working visit to Islamabad, that Pakistan hopes to keep complete normal ties with Britain.

While addressing a press conference in the FO, the spokesman said the visit by the British PM is surely in appreciation of Pakistan's very firm position as part of the international coalition against terrorism, and the purpose of it is to show Britain's solidarity with Pakistan.

He said there had been difficulties in the Pak-Britain relations since Pakistan's nuclear test in 1998 and the change of government in 1999, but the relations between the two countries were returning to normal.

"We hope that with this visit by the British Prime Minister to Pakistan, the relationship and cooperation between the two countries could return to complete normality", Riaz said.
