S. African Airways Reschedules Flights to US

South African Airways (SAA) said on Friday it had rescheduled some flights to and from the United States because of the disruption caused to the global aviation industry in the wake of the September 11 terror attacks.

"Time frames for the aircraft modifications had been influenced by the current disruption within the global aviation industry," the company said in a statement.

"Due to these unforeseen circumstances, the number of SAA's long-haul aircraft in operation, have been affected," the statement said.

A flight from Johannesburg to New York, via Cape Verde, on Thursday was delayed while flights scheduled for Saturday, October 12 and 17 would be affected.

The return flights on Friday, Sunday, October 11, 13 and 18 would also be delayed.

A flight traveling from Cape Town to Atlanta, via Johannesburg and Cape Verde, on Monday and the return journey the next day has been rescheduled.

Passengers on SA 211 for Atlanta will be re-routed to New York on Delta Airlines at no additional cost. Those flying on SA 202 will be re-routed on Friday.

The company said accommodation in Johannesburg and New York would be arranged for passengers with tickets on Thursday.
