Folk Art Festival Ends in Central China

The first provincial folk art festival ended Thursday in Luoyang city, central China's Henan province.

The five-month-long festival featured a vast array of performances and competitions among professionals, amateurs and fans of suona horn, drama, local opera, and acrobatics.

While many citizens here chose to travel outside the city to celebrate the week-long National Day holiday, many others opted for live stage shows of local opera or concerts of Chinese music on traditional instruments.

Henan is considered one of the areas where Chinese culture originated thousands of years ago and the traditions are still active now. Its local opera, named Yuju, is popular throughout the nation.
