China to Hold International Folk Arts Festival

The fifth China International Folk Arts Festival will start on October 12 in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

The six-day festival will feature cultural exchanges and unique ethnic shows by about 600 folk artists in 12 art troupes from 11 countries including Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Republic of Korea, South Africa and the Netherlands.

The first festival was staged in 1990. In the four previous festivals, a combined total of 1,400 art performers from 31 countries and 1.2 million spectators attended.

The festival will be sponsored by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Shaanxi Provincial Government.

As a birthplace of Chinese nation and Chinese ancient culture, 13 or 14 ancient dynasties once set up capitals in Shaanxi. The historical and cultural sites in Shaanxi are known all over the world.
