Expressway in SW China Open to Traffic

The first-phase project of the expressway from southwest China's Chongqing Municipality to Guizhou Province was opened to traffic Tuesday.

The 75-kilometer section of the expressway, with an investment of 150 million U.S. dollars borrowed from the Asian Development Bank, was finished one year ahead of schedule.

According to an official, when completed in 2005, the 1,300- kilometer expressway will link Chongqing Municipality, Sichuan and Guizhou provinces, all in southwest China, with Zhanjiang, a coastal city in Guangdong Province of south China.
