Two Charged in U.S. with Helping Suspected Hijackers

U.S. law enforcement authorities on Monday charged two people with helping suspected hijackers who crashed jetliners into the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington.

Luis Martinez-Flores, 28, was charged with helping Hani Hanjour and Khalid Almihdhar by falsely certifying that they lived at his address in the suburb of Washington.

Martinez-Flores, who lives in Virginia, was scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in the state later Monday.

The Salvadoran immigrant was taken into custody by the Immigration and Naturalization Service on September 15. Officials said he has been living unlawfully in the United States since 1994.

He was the second person charged in Virginia with assisting the hijackers with false documents.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has accused Kenys Galicia of assisting numerous people in obtaining false Virginia documents, including two suspected hijackers.

Galicia, also from El Salvador, admitted on September 19 that she signed residency certification forms for Abdulaziz Alomari and Ahmed Saleh Alghamdi.

Authorities say Alomari was one of the hijackers aboard American Airlines Flight 11, which crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York. Alghamdi was aboard United Airlines Flight 175, which hit the south tower.
