China Sees Week-Long Tourist Peak Coming

China began a week-long tourist peak Monday, according to the China National Tourism Administration.

Early this morning, over 200,000 tourists watched the national flag raising at Tian'anmen square in Beijing. Some 20 makeshift restrooms were put into use inside the Palace Museum, where 70,000 people swarmed in.

The number of tourists increased sharply while good order was maintained in major cities and scenic spots such as Hangzhou, Kunming, Jiuzhaigou and Putuo Mountain.

On Sunday, nearly 3,000 flights took off in China, carrying over 310,000 passengers. The occupancy rate of Monday's flights reached 90 percent between Nanjing, Qingdao and tourist destinations.

Over 90 percent of the return tickets from Zhangjiajie and Dunhuang during the coming week have been booked out. .
