Macao to Benefit From Development of China's Inland: Chief Executive

The development of China's inland will provide a strong backing and a broad prospect for the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) in the 21st century, Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah said in Macao Monday.

Ho noted at a grand cocktail party to commemorate the 52nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China that the country witnessed earth-shaking changes in the past 52 years.

China's economy is growing rapidly despite the world economic slow-down, and it will have new vitality after the country's forthcoming entry into the WTO, he said.

Ho said that Macao people are proud of the motherland's social stability and fast economic growth and upgrading of the people's living standard.

Macao's economy has not recovered completely, but Macao people will unite together to overcome difficulties, the chief executive noted.

The principles of "one country, two systems", "Macao people governing Macao" and a high degree of autonomy have been put into practice, he said, citing the success on the recent election for the 2nd Legislative Assembly.
