300-year-old Feudal Houses Put Under State Protection
A group of houses built more than 300 years ago, in north China's Hebei Province, have been recently listed as relics and under state protection, sources say.
The houses, belonging to a landlord surnamed Wang of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), are located in the Nanyaoshan Village, Shunping County of Baoding City.
According to historical records Wang's estate consisted of four huge courtyards, covering 185,000 square meters. Originally, the establishment had more than 50 sets of houses with over 500 rooms.
The existing eight sets of houses with 129 rooms are the first ever discovered in north China. They are rare in the country for their size and are well preserved.
Architectural experts confirmed that the complex was built in the style of the Forbidden City in Beijing.
A number of films have been shot in the area.
