Macao Chamber of Commerce Celebrates National Day

The Macao Chamber of Commerce held a reception in Macao on Sunday to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Ma Man Kei, chairman of the chamber, noted that China has achieved great achievements over the past 52 years, especially since the reform and opening-up drive was kicked off in 1978.

The campaign to develop China's west and China's forthcoming entry into the WTO will surely further promote economic development and bring Macao new business opportunities, he said.

The Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) has witnessed stable and healthy economic growth and social stability under the leadership of the SAR government headed by Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah since it returned to the motherland at the end of 1999, Ma said.

Macao's industrial and commercial sector and all the residents will unite together to build a more prosperous homeland, said Ma, who is also vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

Greater Success will be achieved on the glorious cause of "one country, two systems", Ma noted.

More than 300 people attended the reception, including Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah and senior officials from the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR and the Office of Special Commissioner of Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Macao SAR.
