Chinese Leaders Join in National Day Celebrations

Chinese Leaders Join in National Day Celebrations
Top Chinese leaders including Jiang Zemin, Li Peng, Zhu Rongji, Li Ruihuan, Hu Jintao, Li Lanqing and Wei Jianxing attended a concert with an audience of 6, 000 local people Sunday evening to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

At the concert, which was held at the Great Hall of the People, 500 artists performed a number of programs marking the National Day, which falls on October 1 and coincides this year's Mid-Autumn Festival, a traditional festival of family reunion.

After the concert, the leaders went up to the Tian'anmen Rostrum to join a large number of local people who stayed on the Tian'anmen Square to watch the bright midnight moon.

The square and the Chang'an Avenue, the main thoroughfare of this national capital, are in a festive mood with the decoration of 300,000 flower pots and colorful and dazzling lamps.
