US Claims No American Security Personnel Stationed at Ethiopian AirportThe American embassy here has said that no American security personnel have been deployed at the Bole international airport in Ethiopia's capital of Addis Ababa to tighten security on the airline's scheduled flights to America. The embassy made the statements after local reports saying the U.S. marine command based at the embassy, with special arrangement with the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority, has started making security checks on luggage and passengers boarding the twice- weekly flights leaving here for the United States. There is no single American stationed at the airport and there are no plans as such in the future to use American officers to do inspection at the airport, said Karl Nelson, information officer of the U.S. embassy. "The security at the airport is the responsibility of the Ethiopian government," Karl was quoted by the weekly Fortune newspaper as saying. |
