15 Women Workers Searched for 5000 Yuan MissingAnother legal case erupted over claims of illegal body search in the wake of alleged wig-theft and ensuing body search made in Shenzhen.According to local paper, not long ago a managerial woman staffer of Taiwan-funded Guangtian Paper Mill in Baoan District found 5000 yuan for buying raw materials missing. Fifteen suspected female workers were immediately called in and forced them to take off their closes, and underwear, for body search. It is reported that now the general manager and factory staffer had apologies made to these women workers and to each offered 3000 yuan for compensation. To cut the story short, it is reported that on the evening of September 27, a managerial staff member surnamed Xie drew out 5000 yuan of factory money for buying raw material, but found it missing the next morning. The thing was soon reported to factory leaders. Around 11 o'clock on September 28, 15 female workers on night shift were woke up and told to open their dormitory suitcases for check. Not founding the missing 5000 yuan, a female manager from Taiwan surnamed Xie ordered the 15 suspected women workers stood in a queue and by themselves took off all of their clothing and underwear for full body search. The search continued for an hour but nothing was found. Chief of local labor service office, surnamed Wen, got wind of the body search and rushed to the site to settle the issue. The 15 workers were divided into three groups and had discussions held at which they were asked to speak out their thoughts and compensation conditions. One of them demand a compensation of 30,000 yuan, the other two 6000 and 5000 yuan respectively. But the general manager thought the workers had placed a too high demand on the factory for "it was the woman manager who had searched them, not men". The local office has put it on file as a case of infringement upon workers' legal rights and would fix liabilities of the factory side. By PD Online Staff Li Heng |
