Sina Lion Withdraws from Taiwan Basketball Circle

Jiang Fengnian, board chairman of China's biggest website Sina.com, announced September 28 in Taipei that the Taiwan (Suzhou) Sina Lion club with the support of sina.com, will withdraw from Taiwan's basketball circle for the unfair treatment from Taiwan authorities.

As reported, the Sina Lion, a professional sport team from Taiwan province, scheduled to leave for the training in Suzhou on October 5 and join in China's domestic league on December 8 in the name of Taiwan (Suzhou) Sina Lion club.

While Taiwan authorities are discontented with the world "Taiwan" in the team's name, and Taipei Basketball Association and other organs all disapproved of the team's title.

And the team is warned that it will be suspected of disobeying the Article 33 of the Statute Law Governing the Relations Between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area, any violation of which shall be imposed a fine of NT$500,000.

Jiang Fengnian felt very disappointed on hearing that. He said that it is only playing basketball while not investing in high-tech industries in China. Sina Lion will win honor for but not bring shame to Taiwan. So he announced to withdraw from Taiwan's basketball circle due to the unfair treatment.

Jiang also reiterated that Sina Lion would surely leave for Suzhou on schedule for the training and matches. He will follow the wishes of team players whether they want to play basketball in China's mainland and communicate with parents of the young players.
