Beijing Inspects Tourist Attractions for SecurityA group of Beijing officials in charge of public security and tourism inspected some key tourist sites in Beijing Saturday, making sure the areas are safe for the travel blitz during China's week-long National Day celebration that starts Oct. 1.Among the checked sites were the Summer Palace, the Palace Museum and the Badaling Section of the Great Wall, which are especially popular to visitors both at home and from abroad. An officer with the Beijing Public Security Bureau said that most of the entertainment and transportation facilities at tourist sites, such as cableways and boats, came up to security standards. Beijing launched a large-scale security inspection campaign early this month to check a total of 181 key tourist destinations in the city. Those with security problems have been forced to close. Some 3,400 additional police will be posted in nearly all the capital's tourist sites during the holiday, police sources revealed. |
