Musharraf Highlights Decisions Serving Best National Interest

Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf said here on Saturday that "Whatever decision we have taken so far and will take in the future to steer the country out of the present crises will be in the best national interest and there will be no bargain."

Musharraf expressed the view while talking to a representative delegation of women from all over the country including Azad Kashmir as part of his consultation process in the wake of the September 11 attacks in Washington and New York, according to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).

Musharraf said in the present crises Pakistan's decision would be beyond monetary considerations and without any monetary bargain.

"This is an issue concerning the integrity of the country. It relates to peace of the region and future and survival of Afghanistan and its people," Musharraf said.

He said, "The peculiar circumstances demand our sagacity and prudence. In these situations it is the duty of the leadership to take into account and analyze the environment, objectives and situation in totality before making any decision."

He reiterated the priorities and basic concerns are integrity and solidarity of the country, economic revival, defense of strategic assets and promotion of Kashmir Cause.

"We will take decisions keeping in view all of our major concerns," Musharraf assured the delegation.
