Export in Hebei Benefits from Green Food IndustryRich in forests, grassland and arable land, north China's Hebei province has turned all these natural advantages into real value and is enjoying a fast-growing green food industry. The green food, mainly chemical-free peanuts, vegetables and fruit, contributes annual exports worth 16 million U.S. dollars to the province, a remarkable achievement in light of the sluggish world economy. Statistics show that about 220,000 tons of green food are processed annually and nearly 41 kinds of such products are exported. The province, with an area of 188,000 square kilometers and a population of 66 million, also has a convenient transportation. The province hires technical staff including experts from foreign countries to ensure the quality of the food and its improving environment. Quality control procedures are being conducted carefully to make sure that the air, water and soil are all up to the national standards of first-grade environment. The province has mapped out a strategy to develop its economy in the 21st century with emphasis on boosting its profitable green food sector.
