Chinese Fashions may Become Popular Again
Mari Janson, fashion critic and executive of "Vogue" and "Elle", said China had a good chance now to repeat the major fashion impact it had on western civilization in the 17th and 18th centuries.
While addressing a recent forum on international garments and culture held in Dalian, in northeast China's Liaoning Province, she said Chinese porcelain, tea and traditional silk garments were very popular at that time.
Janson believes that the Olympic Games in 2008 will give China the chance to repeat its fashion successes 250 years ago.
She urged Chinese designers to combine the best of oriental and western design and achieve success by creating perfection and harmony.
Maria Backlund, a fashion designer from Sweden, called Chinese fashion sensational.
Chinese people's ideas are changing fast and their standard of design is improving, said Backlund, who stressed the importance of preserving Chinese features in fashion design. Backlund has agreed to help Chinese designers create more trendy garments by uniting traditional colors and style with modern fashion.
