HK Police Chief: Anti-terrorism is Interpol's Top Priority

Anti-terrorism was a priority item on the Interpol agenda, said Hong Kong police chief on Saturday returning from a duty visit to Europe.

A delegation headed by the Commissioner of Police Tsang Yam-pui had proceeded to Budapest to attend the 70th Interpol General Assembly Session during which anti-terrorism was a priority item on the agenda.

"All members condemned the terrorist acts that happened in the United States on September 11," Tsang told reporters.

He said: "the Interpol Headquarters have set up a 24-hour coordinating center and action task force to coordinate information received from member countries."

"As far as the member countries are concerned, they will provide as much assistance as possible on information and intelligence connected with terrorist acts or activities."

"Meanwhile, all member countries will step up their own security and formulate effective contingency plans in the event of any terrorist attacks which may occur in their countries," Tsang said.
