Gun Sales Boom in California After Terror Attacks

The gun sales in California have skyrocketed dramatically as many people buy guns to boost safety after the September 11 terror attacks, the Justice Department said Friday.

The department said there was a significant increase in gun sales in the last two weeks after terrorists rammed hijacked airliners into the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, killing about 6,000 people.

More than 9,000 guns were sold in California in the week of the September 11 attacks, 31 percent up over the same week of last year, the department said.

Last week, the numbers jumped even higher. A total of 9,556 guns were sold in a seven-day period, 6,000 more than the same week last year.

Some people are also buying targets with the face of Osama bin Laden printed on it, and the group selling the targets is donating the profits to a charitable organization.
