5th International Folk Art Festival to Be Held in October

The 5th International Folk Art Festival will be held in Beijing, Hangzhou and Xi'an between October 12 and 28.

According to the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles (CFLAC), sponsor of the festival, a total of 361 artists with 16 art troupes from 16 countries will stage a number of musical and dancing performances.

Hu Zhen, secretary of the secretariat of the CFLAC, said that Hangzhou will be the main venue for the festival, with Beijing and Xi'an as the supplementary venues.

Various types of performances, including artistic evenings and street performances, will be staged.

Hu said the festival, with the theme of promoting folk art and enhancing peace and friendship, is aimed at strengthening China's international cultural exchanges, enriching people's cultural life and publicizing China's image in its reforms and open-up drive.

The festival has been held for four times since 1990, attracting more than 1,400 artists with 59 artistic troupes from 31 countries.
