CIS Prime Ministers Call for Global Anti-terrorism Action

The meeting of the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) issued an anti-terrorism statement here Friday, strongly condemning "the unprecedented act of international terrorism committed on U.S. territory on September 11."

The Prime Ministers of CIS member countries expressed in the statement their deep condolences to all victims of the terrorist attacks.

"We emphasize that the brazen challenge of the terrorists must receive a joint rebuff from the world community," the document said.

It is essential to move from political statements to concrete steps and efforts and to work out a mechanism for long-term international cooperation to ensure the effectiveness of antiterrorist measures, it said.

"The CIS member states, which are carrying out a set of measures against international terrorism on a coordinated legal basis, offer an example of consistent regional interaction in this field," it read.

The prime ministers also said their countries were ready to participate in the building of a global system for close cooperation with all states, international organizations and regional bodies.
