Chirac Warns Against Confusion Between Terrorism, Arab WorldFrench President Jacques Chirac called on the international community to guard against any confusion between fanatic terrorist groups and the Arab world, announced France's presidential palace L'Elysee on Friday."Any amalgam between fanatic terrorist groups on the one hand and the Arab and Muslim world on the other is not only wrong in logic but also dangerous in consequences. We should guard against it," said Chirac during his telephone talks with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi. When meeting with Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense Jaswant Singh at L'Elysee, Chirac also reaffirmed his rejection to equation between terrorists and the Arab world, said L'Elysee. Chirac made these remarks amid controversy provoked by Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's comments on Wednesday, when Berlusconi said that "the West should be confident of the superiority of the Occidental civilization." During his telephone talks with Koizumi initiated by the latter, Chirac also insisted on the necessity of humanitarian actions to help Afghan refugees, and Koizumi told Chirac that Japan is ready to join these actions in liaison with the U.N. High Commissioner of Refugees, said L'Elysee.
