Russia-Backed Liquid Ammonia Warehouse Being BuiltA Russian nitro-fertilizer producer is building a warehouse for storing liquid ammonia in Zhanjiang, a port city in south China's Guangdong Province.Toaz Corp., a world leading manufacturer of nitrogenous fertilizer, said the high-tech warehouse will store ammonia to be transported throughout China. The first phase of the two-stage project, the installation of two huge tanks with a capacity of 30,000 cu m, will cost 250 million yuan (about US$30.12 million), 90 percent of which will be paid by the Russian company. Initially, the project will have a storage capacity of 40,000 tons of liquid ammonia. It is expected that 600,000 tons of the chemical will be stored and shipped annually upon first-phase completion. The second phase will bring storage capacity up to 60,000 tons; one million tons of cargo will be stored and transported annually. China has a great demand for chemical fertilizer, especially high-concentration compound fertilizer and compound phosphorous fertilizer. Construction will be completed by October 2002. |
