Chinese Top Lawmaker Meets Lithuanian Guest
As one of the first countries to recognize the independence of Lithuania, China will as always support its people's choice of development path, top Chinese lawmaker Li Peng told a Lithuanian guest Friday.

Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), made the remark when meeting Vytenis Povilas Andriukaitis, vice-chairman of the Lithuanian Parliament.

China established diplomatic ties with Lithuania 10 years ago and it understands Lithuania's willingness to join the European Union, Li said.

The NPC of China attaches great importance to the cooperation and exchanges with the Lithuanian Parliament, and parliamentarian relations will be conducive to the introduction of legislative expertise and the overall development of bilateral ties.

Li reiterated China's stance in opposing terrorist acts and that the fight against terrorism should be in accordance with principles of the United Nations Charter and internationally recognized rules of international law.

Andriukaitis said that this trip has given his delegation a chance to see the great achievements in China made in the drive of reforms and opening up.

China is a great country and its stability and development are an important contribution to the world, he said, adding that China 's foreign policy has been active and steady.

The Lithuanian delegation is here at the invitation of the NPC Foreign Affairs Committee.
